It's all about the wrong focus when analyzing and evaluating strategies. The confrontation between the West and China in the sense of their polar attitude towards Russia should be considered not as a confrontation between the enemy and ally of Russia, but as a conflict of interests of two competitors who seek to receive their piece of cake, cut off from one huge and previously indivisible whole.
But the question is not even which of the competitors will receive a larger piece of cake, in what quality and in what geography it will express, but in who will be able to bring a greater burden of costs on the opponent. It is the volume and timing of future expenses that are key factors that determine the course of further game.
Not the one who will be the first to reach the pie, but the one who will make the competitor spend all his strength on it, then to take everything when the competitor falls with a firm hand when the competitor falls, is not able to eat the received. From the point of view of the event, the Great War against Russian aggression is conducted by the hands of Ukraine, albeit at the expense of the West. But from China's point of view, this great war is conducted by hands, or more precisely by the West.
And now the aggregate measure is much ahead of China with the volume and timing of weighting, solving in its common "two shores" the problem of the Eurasian land. In China, compared to the West, a completely different, much lower weight and safety stock, including his own set of problems, which does not give him the right to mistake in a big expense game. At the same time, China is in a rather vulnerable, though favorable position.
