In 2015, we went to Kiev just for a walk, met with a producer of one of the channels - we were offered to stay in Kiev for three months in order to make one project. We have remained for three months, and they have been lasting for seven years. Video day before the full -scale invasion, we were sure that the situation was injection.
When the apocalyptic scenarios were discussed and the fact that Kyiv would bomb, I said: “How will the people of Russia treat Kyiv? Kyiv-"Mother of Russian Cities", here Lavra, here the Museum of World War II, Motherland Matter . . . " In general, we did not believe that it would be so large-scale and so in the style of the 1940s. I said: if Putin moves the tank, we will get up and leave - this is not life. We still do not want to get nowhere.
The Jewish community works genetic memory: there is a feeling that everything is repeated. New Hitler, New Nazis, an attempt of a new Holocaust. We cannot go back into the past and prevent that the Holocaust. But we can not allow a new one. Anna: On February 24, 2022 we were home. We were woke up at four in the morning by a phone call by our aunt and uncle, who quite accidentally that night, from 23 to 24, flew to Germany. This, of course, was a very surreal day. They woke up and did not believe.
Then another friends called and said that they bombard the plant right in our area. Roman: I woke up to Anya after this call, saying that it started. Anya suggested that once we will have a long hard day, let's sleep. At this time, something shook. After that, we gathered immediately. We collected a suitcase in advance, talked in advance with the baby. I did not say that there would be a war, because it is very difficult to explain what suddenly someone is going to attack us, especially Russia.
But at school they were prepared, bombing - I insisted that they go and checked, because we were already passing it in Israel. We told him, “Do you love the Apocalypse Film Film? It can happen that we will just get up and go as in a movie. " Therefore, when I woke him up, he said, "What, apocalypse?" He got up and started gathering. When they left Kiev, they picked up a familiar student-student who was our bebisiter. She wanted to go to her mother to Uzhgorod.
The whole city was in the traffic jams then, and as long as we got to it and got out, six hours have passed. She called a colleague who lives somewhere under Buuchea, suggested that they have them in a large house. Probably, if it were not for the girl we took to Uzhgorod, I would agree. Anna: In the day we got to Khmelnitsky, there was managed to book a hotel. Then they got Lviv - two days. During the movement, they decided what next.
This is horrible: you go and do not know when you come and whether you come at all. Gasoline ends, no gas stations. We were very lucky that the car was hybrid. On the slightest occasion, we refilled. In Lviv, strangers were offered to spend the night at home. I remember this feeling: we come to Lviv, a good house, and I suddenly in the normal world, everything is so unreal. Then they spent a day in Uzhgorod and decided that I would go with my baby abroad - it was assumed that for two weeks.
There, in Uzhgorod, everything was calm, there were cafes. I have a photo where we last drink coffee and understand that we are divorcing. We have not parted for more than five days for all time together. Roman: And for another day they argued. Anya wanted me to leave her, and as an Israeline, I could probably be able to leave. And I really wanted to go back. There was a feeling that it was necessary to stay. Anna: Our bus stood on the border for almost six hours.
When we crossed it was impossible cold. The baby is frozen. Volunteers on that side meet us, pour coffee, look for a baby scarf, warm boots, just gave the products immediately to eat. It moved me so. About volunteering novel: everything was somehow solved by itself. On Facebook, I began to write people with questions, and what to help, then began to transfer money to some requests. On the other hand, people wrote in despair: some disappeared, others sat without food.
Someone called that it was necessary to get to the border, it is impossible to catch a taxi or a bus. There were those who called and said, "We have bulletproof vests, we are ready to sell them. " I have many friends in medicine, from science - in Israel, in Germany. So we started carrying medicine. Anna: We went first to Vienna for one night and then to Nuremberg. Already on the way, our phones became known: I was called, asked how to go, what to do, how to get.
I figured out the graph of evacuation trains, learned how the buses go, where and where to get better. Ohmatdit Hospital - there was a whole group of children who were also looking for a bus. She found a volunteer who removed them from Kiev. Already in Germany I had almost a week when I just didn't get up from my computer. Inquiries were driving into private, all our Israeli friends knew that we were related to help, they all turned.
Everyone had relatives in Ukraine, everyone worried about how to take them out, what to do, how to deliver products, medicines. It was the most horrifying week in my life, apparently. Then I just learned about everything: what medicines end, how people to take out, what wounds are, in general, everything. I remember this feeling of complete despair when Mariupol was very often asked how to take people out. And I knew that only one group of volunteers would export from Mariupol.
Roman: At some point, I realized that I can take one family to the border in the day or take one cargo in a day, and sitting at my computer can coordinate for people to take 10 families. Many people did not physically go by the car and take away, but give an algorithm of action: what to do, where to call, what to call, where to enroll, to get information. Anna: We had a whole team of people: some took families to the border, another team was looking for medicines in Lviv and sent them.
Another is in Kiev. But these are all very complex processes that needed to coordinate. Roman: Chernihiv and Mariupol were, of course, the most difficult. A familiar girl suddenly turned out to be from Mariupol - she took out two families. I then learned from her that it was in principle real, we began to find out how to do it. Then my colleague wrote - his parents and parents of his wife were in Mariupol.
He went to a group of Mariupol drivers who went there because men were practically not allowed - they could shoot for the slightest suspicion. The people of Mariupol or Zaporizhzhya cars were relatively normal, saying: "I am going for a family. " We started raising money, looking for such cars. They found those who left Mariupol, and there was a car, paid money, somehow passed the keys. I also realized that local taxi drivers who know how to talk on checkpoints are relatively safe from there.
About the drones of Roman: in March we still had the feeling that the war would end soon. But after Bucha, after all this was revealed, at some moment everyone realized that the war would not end until the Russian army ended. The most humble thing you can do is to destroy the Russian army as soon as possible. If you buy a drone that blows up a Russian tank, it is a Russian tank that will not bomb the Ukrainian House, and in the tank - Russian soldiers who do not rape the Ukrainian woman.
If you really want to save life, then you need to help the Ukrainian army. I launched a collection in Israel. It is difficult to raise money, but someone has a form, some tourist things. The main direction is everything that is connected with the military. To the best of our strength, we try to make the Ukrainian army more technological. Nowadays, the main direction is drones, because it is like aviation in the First World War. This is something that can change the situation on the battlefield.
These are artillery, intelligence, bombing. The Russians were impossible - they have stirred up everyone: the whole creative class, the ITs, gamers, the screenwriters now direct their creative energy to create pieces that will increase the performance of the Ukrainian army, and in the end, then it will demolish the rusty tanks. We do not need an iron dome for Ukraine for Ukraine: the iron dome itself, which in Israel, we do not need.
As far as I know, it will not fit Ukraine - it will not fit into the infrastructure of the Ukrainian army. Plus it is designed for small cities, can close Tel Aviv, but will not be able to Kharkiv, it will not be enough. Plus, it was created against those shells that produce Palestinians or can produce Hezbolla from Lebanon. But he will not collect the caliber or Iskander. This requires other complexes. The fact that the war will be delayed. It is necessary to increase air defense.
Ukraine needs its own military-industrial complex, the creation of its air defense. The same thing was in Israel: by 1970 it was completely dependent on the supply of weapons from Europe, America, and then developed its military-industrial complex into a huge industry. Now the sale of "defense" is one of the articles of income of the Israeli budget.
Irina Vrataryova, producer, screenwriter, philanthropist about the beginning of the Great War on February 23 in the evening I sat on the train and went to Ivano-Frankivsk to read several lectures and hold a casting for her new film. And in the morning she came to the war, from the station saw the explosions that were at the airport - there was smoke. I had a rather atypical reaction.
While everyone was running, I became and looked that it was cinematic, for some reason, completely calmly realizing: it started. And then I went to work with her colleague and friend Hilarion Pavlyuk - a veteran and a very good writer. He is also a Ukrainian of Jewish origin and his thoughts on the self -identification and unity of multinational Ukraine are very valuable for our narrative.
It is interesting that over the last year we worked on the "eight -series" about the beginning of the war and it was very important for us to tell the whole world - which was to be an international project - what is the difference between Ukraine and the Russian peace. Now not everyone knows this difference. There was no question for Hilarion what to do. Of course - to protect the Motherland. The same thing happened with everyone I know. It is our spirit to fight for freedom.
I was very scared because my parents remained in Kiev, but we maintained communication. As for a full -scale invasion, I had no doubt for many years. On the contrary, it was shocked how many of my acquaintances were not noticed that the war was going for eight years. Gradually, I began to find out that a lot of my acquaintances from Israel had arrived in Ukraine this week. This is how our common volunteering and the fight against the enemy began.
I was invited to the local cathedral in the first days. I came and saw a picture, one in one, as my grandmother Rosya told many years ago, remembering 1942-1943 - how they wore nets. I never thought to see it. Many young children woven their palms for the military. Then I started crying, though it is not inherent to me. Such a memory and intersection of time impressed me. I felt a frantic power. Because we all weave our nets, we knit network protection for Ukraine together.
Almost in those days in my life, the city of Mariupol first appeared. I was called: I had to look for how to take people out of there, my friend's parents. And when we started to find out how we met the volunteers - then they started actively engaged in evacuation. It is the evacuation of hot spots that became my main task in the first months of the war, and - quite effective. It continues.
We have formed a wonderful company of creative people, including screenwriters from Israel, screenwriters from Ukraine, philanthropists from Israel and Ukraine, volunteers of Jewish origin and various eating absolutely - Ukrainians for fate, and at the choice of being with us. In addition to evacuation, we are now engaged in complex military requests. She received several new nicknames, including "Tactical Equipment".
I am integrated into the war now more than creativity, although I gradually return to the main work. Evacuation is very, very difficult to stay in resource and equilibrium. I constantly hear stories that people tell me in war. Their thousands and my heart breaks. There has never been nothing more responsible in my life. It was very scary to make a mistake at least a step, to say unnecessary word, to do something that would hurt. Very often, volunteers did not return. This happened.
One of the cool projects, which was born through evacuation, is the exhibition of photo artist Irina Beketova, which we show in Europe, and we transfer the money for them for evacuation needs. We cooperate with the Fund Heritage of the future of Pavel Feldblum. If there is already a person among my secular acquaintances for whom Judaism is a real life, then he is he, the director of the Galician synagogue, a public figure.
And how it turned into one of the most powerful volunteers of Ukraine in this six months is a true hero's arch. We can be of different origin. But we are all children of Ukraine. Never understand this imperial delicate. Is the Israelites in Ukraine can somehow separate themselves from Ukrainians? No. Being a Ukrainian and a Jew, she asked herself for a lot: "Who am I?" And in the end she realized that we were Ukrainian Jews.
My dad is 85, he is a famous poet who created many songs, children's cartoons. And yet - a child of war. At the age of five, his father went to evacuation, already realizing that there was such Hitler who wants to kill him. When I was still a baby, she heard he woke up with a shout: "Mom, bomb!" His cousin was born when they were traveling in a burning echelon. This echelon stopped because it was bombed.
How well does the Russian learn from the Nazis, right? It seemed to me for a long time that people learned and repetition was impossible. When there were raids on Kyiv, when there were explosions, Dad and mom went to the basement. The father in his 85 created poems for little children so that they were not as scary as it was. This is a crazy bond of time. Dad called me, his voice was joyful, he wanted to support me.
But this crazy pain that Hitler returns that evil is with us again - I still feel it. Now it is like his reincarnation. Small and nasty. When we met, my father said that "this Hitler" was more frightening. Because he understands his lies. But we understand that not one he is guilty. Every Russian, every person who has remained in Russia since 2014, everyone who has silently swallowed the annexation of Crimea is actually guilty of everything. I think they [Russians] understand everything.
Just as the Israelis have now realized that new evil is now attacking Ukraine and the world. Jews, like no other, know what the Holocaust is, so they unite with the Ukrainians so that this Holocaust is not allowed again. Israel is the only country in the world where the desert retreated. There is such a wonderful Dune movie based on Frank Herbert's outstanding novel. It has a similar hint: "And the desert will retreat. " In Israel there are flowering gardens on the site of the sand.
This is that we cannot concede any step. For Ukraine from God's grace and from our common love, hard work is fantastic. And where the boot of the Russian soldier goes, flowering gardens turn into swamps. We will not accept this throughout the world. Perhaps how obvious is our enemy that makes the need to win a very unifying idea. Apparently we have never been so single, loving and supportive. In the future, it will only grow. It is also the experience of great love.
I am very grateful to everyone who covers Ukraine with us. We all feel the support of the world. And let it be even more. Mikhail Zaslavsky, founder of the Charitable Foundation for the Association of Jewish Religious Organizations, Deputy Mayor of Vyshneve about the beginning of the Great War I live in the Buchansky district. So, unfortunately, on February 24 he met with explosions. The first were in the area at half past five, when I learned that the war actually began, that this was happening.
Everyone hoped that there would be no wars that there would be enough common sense not to do these stupid things. Then I clearly realized: we have no other choice of how to fight. Our charitable foundation has existed since 2019, but more on paper. Since February 24, I fully activated his activity. What is probably a significant difference between my fund and others - because of it, money and only products and other humanitarian aid were not passed.
For example, in the first month, we put about 200 tons of products for the population, the Armed Forces, and Taroborons. At the beginning, various businessmen provided the help - many have goods in warehouses.
