Canada will transmit to Ukraine legendary Sidewinder flights: what is known about them

Despite its adoption in 1956, the rocket will be in service with the US Air Force by 2050. Canadians will be transferred to the Ukrainian Army dozens of ammunition that can affect whole in air combat. According to the results of the Ramstein contact group, Canada has announced the supply of AIM-9 Sidewinder missiles to Ukraine. This was reported by the Canadian Government press service on May 25. Canadian National Defense Minister Anita Anand has announced the supply of Ukraine 43 AIM-9 missiles.

The ammunition will be transferred from the Canadian army. It is noted that these missiles should help Ukraine defend themselves in the sky from Russian attacks. AIM-9 is an American rocket manufactured by Raytheon. Air-to-air ammunition was adopted in 1956 and is still in serial production. During its existence, a significant number of modernizations have been carried out. Currently, AIM-9 in version X can be seen even at the 5th generation F-35.

The Soviet Union copied the AIM-9 rocket and created K-13/R-13. The engineers created it by reverse engineering, a sample of ammunition was transmitted by China. The main characteristics: during the production of AIM-9, dozens of Soviet aircraft were shot, and more than 200 thousand units were created. There are more than 10 versions of rockets that Ukraine will receive is unknown. The above characteristics reflect the base version of AIM-9.
