The British Army has successfully applied swarms of drones: how technology will change the war (video)

The idea is that one operator can control several UAVs from one remote. The UK army successfully used a swarm of unmanned aerial vehicles while testing in Salisbury. The military reported about the technological breakthrough on the official site. According to the new classification, drawn up by military aviation, swarm drones are called miniature UAVs, which can be managed at the same time by one operator. In this case, each drone can be entrusted to perform their own task.

During the tests, the military protested two different "swarms" systems. The first was the Atlas, where one operator controls four drones with a tablet, to perform individual missions, you should switch to specific devices. The second system, Elbit, allows the serviceman to manage six UAVs, programming autonomous missions, that is, you can force the whole swarm to perform the same task or entrust each drone. The British worked two main scenarios.

The first assumes that the switches will provide round -the -clock protection around the perimeter, monitoring and around a certain object. In the second scenario, the military relied on artificial intelligence, which is associated with the system for planning UAV missions so that the drones can ensure the observation and inform the operator about any of the goals noticed, as well as follow the military as needed.

"The use of this controller and several drones provides me with a great survey of the area around me. This type of technology will be a huge help when deploying in units in the future, helping in intelligence and safety On a massive hill to see what is happening on the other side. You can just send a drone to look back, reducing the risk to a soldier on Earth, " - said the younger Corporal Kai Webb, who tested the swarm management.

Lieutenant Colonel Arthur Dow said the commander of the infantry test and development that the swarm technology would strengthen the opportunities for intelligence, observation and exploration of the British Army. In the future, it is planned to be used for the task of more accurate strikes on the enemy at a long distance. "This is a significant achievement for the FCG and the army.

Now we have proven the concept according to which one person can control six drones that reduces the load on the operator. In the future we want one operator to control six, twelve, thirty, forty, or more drones in The integrated swarm. As we move further with future army projects, we are counting on human and machine work that will start to include land elements, as well as air elements in the form of a combination system, " - said the leading engineer Dominic Ferrett.

Earlier, the British military proved that the swarms of drones could break through the opponent's defense. They conducted several experiments during the Global Air and Space Chiefs 2022. Aviation Marshal Michael Wigton also admitted that the army has tested five types of drones over the last three years. They also wrote that the military would be able to instantly make 3D cards with the help of drones and new Farsight technology. The program allows you to combine images of several UAVs.
