"While there is a place for debate": Scholtz vs the idea of closing the border for Russian citizens

The politician believes that the right to enter the EU countries and stay there should be obtained by those Russians who are looking for a hiding place from the Kremlin dictatorship. German Chancellor Olaf Scholtz opposed the ban on the entry of Russian citizens to the EU countries. The politician wrote about this statement by Reuters. "There is still a place for debate over such a ban," Scholt said during a meeting with the leaders of the Scandinavian countries.

German leader added that the ban on crossing the borders with the European Union should not complicate the situation to those Russians who, through their opposition views, are forced to escape from Vladimir Putin's dictatorship. "We understand that there are many people running away from Russia because they do not agree with the Russian regime," the chancellor said.

The authorities of the EU countries discusses the idea of introducing a ban on the issuance of Schengen visas to citizens of the Russian Federation within the new package of sanctions prepared for Russia. Several EU countries were issued the issue of closing the Schengen area for Russian citizens. Thus, Finland Prime Minister Sanna Marin believes that Russian citizens need to limit the issuance of tourist visas at the pan-European level.

"At a time when the Russian Federation is running an aggressive and cruel war in Europe, Russians can live a normal life, travel Europe, be tourists. It is wrong," Marin said. It was supported by the Prime Minister of Estonia Kai Callas. "Visiting Europe is a privilege, not human right," the head of the Estonian government said. "Airlines with Russia are closed. While Schengen countries are issuing visas, the burden is carried by the neighbors of Russia - Finland, Estonia and Latvia.

It is time to stop tourism with the Russian Federation," the official said. We will remind, the head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Dmytro Kuleba supported the ban on the issuance of tourist visas to the EU. He called on Russians who are not suited to the prospect of banning foreign countries for tourist purposes, addressing their Kremlin complaints and 70% of fellow citizens who support a full -scale invasion of Ukraine.
