Zigfried Wolf is part of the supervisory board of several European car concerns. In January 2023, he wrote a letter to the President of the Russian Federation stating that he could help solve the problem with the exit of European car brands from the country. Wolf suggested that Putin launch a "rescue of the Russian auto industry" and provide at least 270 thousand cars in the Russian Federation annually. For such a "service" the entrepreneur demanded an initial loan of about 800 million euros.
According to Wolf's plan, the project restoration should be established with the Russian enterprise gas. Cars would be carried out at two companies that have not been operating since 2022. The entrepreneur assured Putin that the Volkswagen management agreed with his decision. According to him, the final decision would be reached in March. Wolf also suggested that the President of the Russian Federation launches the production of gas trucks at the former Schaeffler plant.
