Government's decision. Latvia limits entry for Russian citizens with Schengen visas - Foreign Ministry

The Latvia government has decided to restrict entry into the country to Russian citizens who have Schengen visas. The head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Latvia Edgar Rinkevich announced this on Twitter on Friday, September 9. Earlier, he said that a ban on entering the Baltic States for Russians with short -term Schengen would come into force in the coming days. The Cabinet of Ministers must issue an order that will be exceptions that they have agreed.

Video of the day, according to Rinkevich, the ban will relate to the border of the Baltic countries with the Russian Federation and Belarus. Russians who have short -term Schengen visas will not be able to cross the EU's external border in the Baltic States, Airport, Land, and possibly sea border. Each of the Baltic countries makes a decision separately.

On the eve of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Estonia said that against the background of a full -scale invasion of the Russian Federation into Ukraine, his country has been closing the entry to Russian tourists since September 19. Earlier, a number of EU members, including the Baltic countries, have already restricted the issue of Russian citizens of Schengen visas, explaining the decision that visiting Europe for them is "a privilege, not a right.
