Last year, Europe collided with the "triple crisis" of energy, according to the report. The first factor was the invasion of Russia into Ukraine, which struck the world energy system. Before the attack, Europe received one third of her gas from Russia. But with the beginning of the war, the EU has imposed sanctions on oil and coal imports from the Russian Federation.
In addition, Europe was faced with drought, which was the fall in electricity production with hydroelectric power plants and unexpected disconnections of atomic energy. But at the expense of winds and solar panels, the EU managed to compensate for 83% of these losses. The generation of solar energy in the EU has increased by a record 24%, which helped to avoid gas costs by € 10 billion.
