This belief was expressed by the head of the Presidential Office Andriy Yermak during a panel discussion on the introduction and application of sanctions against the aggressor country, which took place within the annual meeting of the Yalta European Strategy (YES).

According to him, as long as the Russian army is in Ukraine, Russia must receive new sanctions daily. He compared the imposition of sanctions with parking penalties: “If the car is incorrectly parked, it receives a new fine daily. Similarly, sanctions: while the Russian army is in Ukraine, Russia has to receive new sanctions daily, ”Michael McFol said.

In this context, the issue of rejection of Russian energy, which, according to Andrei Yermak, is, though difficult, but has prospects for promotion. “Of course, it is not easy for our European partners. We feel it. But they have a very optimistic look about gradual - but with quite clear terms - abandoning Russian energy. Such a goal is, and they really have specific plans, ”said the head of the head of state.

He emphasized the importance of the implementation of these plans as soon as possible, because today the main income of the Russian Federation and the source of financing of the military machine - energy exports. “While this war is ongoing, Ukrainians are being killed every day, sanctions are definitely not enough. Russia should feel even more every day that this war will cost it very, very expensive. For all Russians, ”Andrey Yermak said.

The head of the Presidential Office noted that it is not only about the leadership of the country, but also about all citizens of the Russian Federation who support the aggressive policy of their leaders. Therefore, the Russians need to apply restrictions, including visa. In addition, Andriy Yermak emphasized the inadmissibility of proposals for weakening sanctions on Russian oligarchs in exchange for their financial donation for Ukraine.

Michael McFol, for his part, called the proposed financial assistance absolutely insufficient. “At a time when we turn to our partners to increase sanctions, it will be unfair and wrong to talk about some weakening. Do we see a weakening at the front? Do we see that they stopped killing Ukrainians? Or someone of their own will, without the success of our warriors liberate our territories? I think we do not see it, ”said the head of the head of state.
