Russians have nothing to do on the Internet: for the first time in history mobile traffic decreased

Operators felt the consequences of blocking and voluntary departure of foreign resources from the Russian market. In the second quarter of 2022 in Russia, for the first time in history, mobile Internet traffic decreased. About it writes Izvestia, referring to the data of the Ministry of Digital Development, Communications and Mass Communications. According to the department, in January-March users in the Russian Federation used 8. 54 billion GB on mobile networks, and from April to June-only 8.

35 billion GB (2. 3% less). Before that, traffic only increased year by year and never swore. Russian communication operators confirm the fall of traffic in the second quarter. The MTS employee noted that the company did not record traditional growth from March to May, but in June the traditional summer decline began. According to the Tele2 representative, in the network of this operator the quarterly reduction of traffic was less - by 1. 6%.

Experts associate an unprecedented event to reduce online resources available to Russians. After the start of a full -scale invasion of Ukraine, the Russian authorities blocked a number of foreign sites and social networks, and some companies left the country on their own protest against its aggression. In particular, Facebook and Instagram ceased to open, and Tiktok refused to work in favor of Russian users.

Online cinemas and strings and stringing services have also stopped opened in the Russian Federation. So the Russians have become much less opportunities to spend time on the Internet. The MTS employee noted that the growth of Telegram messenger traffic has increased significantly, but he could not fully compensate for the lack of Facebok, Instagram and Tiktok.

The Ministerfra added that the traffic from blocked services was redistributed between the Russian ones, for example, the VKontakte audience increased. Earlier they wrote that Russia is ready to disconnect from the global Internet. According to Dmitry Peskov, the Special Representative of the Russian President of the Russian Federation, the Russians will finish the world's network, and local resources will be operated by that time.
