Is Democratic Russia possible

Soon new independent states will appear in the Russian Federation. Whether they have a democratic future I am a supporter of the idea of Path Dependence, a trail (repetition of the history of previous patterns. - Ed. ). In Russia, there has never been democracy, why should it suddenly appear? In addition, democracy requires Democrats. They were not brought again. The path does not mean doom: if there is a will and a strong social coalition, you can change everything.

But it is worth looking from other points of view. So I read different materials about this. And I am constantly thinking that Russia "Too Big to Be Democratic" is too big for democracy. All major democratic countries are, in fact, a voluntary association of quite successful states or communities (even if they are young, because young people can be successful), often with their own mature institutions and self -government traditions. The United States has been formed from 13 states.

India had millennial traditions of local self -government, and in one case, the word that denotes it was included in the name of the state (Tamil Nadu), more about it - Francis Fukuyami and Daron Agemoglu. In other words, free small states can create federations or confederations, and the large non -free states (empires) break up. Soon, in historical standards, new independent states will begin to appear in the territory of present -day Russia.
