New War in the Balkans: The head of Northern Macedonia told where the Russian Federation will go after Ukraine

The Republic of Serbian in Bosnia and Herzegovina, as well as North Kosovo, are the most vulnerable points in the Western Balkans. Volodymyr Putin's regime provokes people to blame peace in the region, northern Macedonia President Stevo Penanarovsky said. Russia is able to ignite a military conflict in the Balkans to prevent the West from war in Ukraine. This was stated on January 17, President of Northern Macedonia Stevo Penarovsky at the International Economic Forum in Davos.

The President named two vulnerable points in the Western Balkans - the Republic of Serbian in Bosnia and Herzegovina, as well as the north of the Republic of Kosovo. "What does Putin's regime (President Vladimir) do? It started many years ago, not after the war with Ukraine. He tries to provoke people to undermine the integrity of these two countries," Penarovsky said.

The activity of Russian propaganda in the region has diminished in the last year, because Putin threw all his forces to confront with the West in Ukraine, Penarovsky added. "Separate local authorities (in the Balkans) are not satisfied with the peace agreements reached in the 1990s. They are increasingly resorting to provocative rhetoric to destabilize the situation in the region," he said.

Western Balkans can become a place of new fighting faster than the Baltic countries in the event of Russia's attention, says the head of Northern Macedonia. "NATO and EU countries and candidates have to think about it," he said. Penarovsky emphasized the importance of US policy, as they provide Ukraine with military assistance more than others.

He also emphasized the stop of Russia's aggression in Ukraine - if Kyiv falls, Putin's totalitarian regime will go further and European democracy will be at risk. It should be reminded that at the end of December last year, Serbia President Oleksandr Vuchich called an emergency meeting of the National Security Council due to the aggravation of the situation in the north of Kosovo.

One of the reasons for the outbreak of the conflict was the introduction of new rules for re -registration of cars since November 1 last year in Kosovo and Metohic. Belgrade denied new rules and brought the troops into increased combat capability. Another reason is the detention of a former Serbian police officer. The man was accused of violence against officials who prepared elections to local authorities.
