Hydra 70 is an unmanaged aviation rocket 70mm caliber. It was developed for the Navy in the 1940s. This is one of the world's most common air -weapons. The Air-Touch Class Rockets have several rocket motors and various warheads. General Dynamics Armament and Technical Products are the general contractor of ammunition production. It is worth noting that the Hydra 70 was developed on the basis of another rocket - MK40 FFAR from Naval Ordnance Test Station.
At first the rocket was the air-air class and only then was made in the air-top version. In May 2011, the US Army received a four -million Hydra 70 rocket. The Hydra 70 ammunition consists of three parts: the US Navy ammunition has never abandoned cheap ammunition. Therefore, there are currently three categories of warheads and even more different variants of engines and fasteners from which they can be started. The most common version of the US Army is M151 10-Pounder with kilograms.
They are designed to destroy the enemy's infantry. In general, the Hydra 70 is used for staffing, material purposes or for suppressing the enemy. There are nine different warheads with the following types of detonators: shock, remote, fixed and others. Among them are lighting, smoke, fugas, phosphorus, flashlet and other modifications. The main change during the rocket is MK 66, which uses new fuel with more draft.
Therefore, the main characteristics will be suitable for ammunition from MK 66: it is worth noting that Hydra 70 is suitable not only for helicopters, but also for fighter jets and gunns. Among all options, there are no helicopters or fighters that could be suitable for the Ukrainian army, but it can be adapted for Soviet aviation because of the relative simplicity of the rocket. For AH-64D Apache, AH-1 COBRA, OH-58D launchers with rockets for Hydra 70 is standard weapons.
In addition, they can be carried by F-16 fighters, A-10 Warthrog Stormtroopers and a number of other products. Ukraine has previously received Hydra 70 missiles, but not for aviation, but as part of the APKWS II complex. It was designed to make an unmanaged rocket high -precision due to the laser aiming system. At least part of APKWS II came into service to the newly created 37th Separate Marine Corps.
