Wikipedia editors promoted Russian propaganda in the article about war in Ukraine - research

Analysts have discovered more than 80 encyclopedia editors who constantly referred to the Kremlin media and added Russian press releases to Russian aggression material. British analysts exposed the Wikipedia online encyclopedia network, which made corrections in the article on the Russian-Ukrainian war to support the pro-Russian position in this matter.

This is stated in the Analytical Centers report by the Institute of Strategic Dialogue (ISD) and the CASM analysis center (CASM), published on Monday, October 17. The study analyzes the activities of 86 Wikipedia editors, which were blocked on the site due to violations of the rules. It turned out that they made changes to many articles, including in the article on the Russian-Ukrainian war.

Analysts concluded that the editors deliberately changed the article to manipulate narratives and to incline it to the pro -Russian side. The changes included reducing the objectivity of pro -War observations and to maximize the objectivity of the pro -Kremlin reports, the article said.

In addition, the editors preferred the topics "which tend the historical background towards pro -Russian narratives," and added Kremlin quotes and press releases to show that pro -Russian arguments and perspectives on war are objective. Often, editors referred to Russian state media, which seemed suspicious to researchers. At the same time, the authors of the report indicate that it is impossible to establish a direct link between Wikipedia editors and the Russian government.
