Road to Europe Closed: Four countries want to prohibit visa visas to Russians

The head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the EU believes that the termination of a simplified visa agreement with the Russian Federation is a necessary measure. In Poland, Estonia, Lithuania and Latvia, they have reported intent to take measures at the national level to reduce the number of Russian citizens entering the European Union. Finland also considers the possibility of introducing similar restrictions on Russian citizens. Financial Times writes about it.

The statement of the Foreign Ministry of Poland, Estonia, Lithuania and Latvia states that the termination of the simplified visa agreement with the Russian Federation is a necessary measure. In addition, it is necessary to sharply limit the issuance of tourist visas. Countries have asked the European Commission to propose appropriate visa measures that could be implemented in the EU.

It is worth noting that until such measures are taken at the EU level, the Baltic countries bordering on Russia and Belarus will not exclude the possibility of introducing at the national level temporary measures for prohibition on issuing visas to citizens of the Russian Federation. They can also impose restrictions on the border crossing for Russians with EU visas.

According to Financial Times, from the end of February this year, when the Russian Federation attacked Ukraine, Finland, Poland, Estonia, Lithuania and Latvia, about 700,000 Russian citizens have entered, most of them were tourists. Earlier, we reported that the EU foreign ministers this week will approve the cancellation of the agreement with Moscow on the simplified procedure for issuing Schengen visas to the Russians.
