"It doesn't change": Putin's threats with nuclear weapons do not affect the course of war - Levitus

President of Latvia noted that the Kremlin's statements about the placement of tactical nuclear weapons in Belarus are a political signal. Therefore, Russia wants not peace, but continuation of the war in Ukraine. The placement of Russian tactical nuclear weapons in Belarus as a whole changes nothing in the context of the general military situation, since it does not matter where it is directly located. Meanwhile, President Vladimir Putin's statements on this issue are Moscow's political signal.

This opinion was expressed by President of Latvia Egils Levitz in an interview with Deutsche Welle on April 7. "Of course, it is a political signal that Moscow is referred to: Russia does not want peace, Russia wants to continue aggression in Ukraine," the politician said, adding that the Baltic countries consulted on this issue with Western allies.

According to him, despite all the steps of the Kremlin, the Alliance should think about providing Ukraine with all the necessary weapons to resist the Russian attack. "If we have such a goal, then, of course, every country should think about what its contribution may be to achieve this goal," Levitus is convinced.

We will remind, the spokesman of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov, commenting on the decision of the Kremlin to place tactical nuclear weapons in Belarus, said that this step would be a response to NATO approaching Russian borders. According to him, Russia is worried about its safety and takes steps to ensure it.
