Only three countries were supported: the UN rejected the resolution of the Russian Federation on the blasting of the Nord Stream

The US permanent representative to the UN Robert Wood accused the Kremlin of an attempt to interfere with the current national investigation of explosions in the north streams. On Monday, March 27, the UN Security Council rejected the draft resolution proposed by the Russian Federation, which refers to an independent investigation of explosions at the Nord Stream 1 and 2 between the Russian Federation and Germany. Reuters writes about it.

It is reported that only three states were supported by the document: China, Brazil and the Russian Federation. Other UN Security Council participants preferred to abstain. In order for the mentioned resolution to be adopted, it must receive support from at least nine members of the Council. At the same time, the Russian Federation, China, France, the US and the United Kingdom should not be vetoed.

According to journalists, members of the UN Security Council, who did not support the Russian initiative, argued their decision to first complete current national investigations. The Russian Federation nominated its resolution at the end of February 2023. In Moscow, they complained about insufficient informing about the course of investigations of the incident in the north streams and claimed that the western countries involved in the blasting.

The US Deputy Permanent Representative in the UN Robert Wood denied Russia's accusations and added that the Kremlin was trying to "discredit current national investigations. " At the same time in Sweden, Denmark and Germany they noted that they provided information on the course of the investigation of the explosions.
