Since March 4, the largest nuclear power plant in Europe, Zaporizhzhya NPP, was captured by Russian invaders after fighting in Energodar. The buildings of the ZPE were damaged by Russian shelling in several places, and the staff of the station were captured.
At the end of April, the NPP completely resumed its work, although the Russian regime is trying to get full control over the station, attracting its specialists. The Kremlin uses the Zaporozhye NPP to cover its military equipment because the Armed Forces cannot open fire in the area of the power plant, as well as for pressure on Ukraine and the world, threatening a nuclear disaster.
On July 21, the Energoatom press service reported that the military of the Russian Federation had placed in the machine hall of the first power unit of Zaporizhzhya NPP at least 14 units of heavy military equipment with ammunition, weapons and explosives. US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken accused Russia of the use of the Zaporozhye NPP as a "nuclear shield" and called the Russian Federation "the pinnacle of irresponsibility.
