The NBU warns of the danger of cash circulation of hryvnia banknotes damaged by banks during martial law, from temporary occupation areas. It is about money stolen by occupiers or looters from the captured branches of banks. The fact is explained by the regulator that banks in the context of hostilities, if it is impossible to withdraw cash, must damage it to bring banknotes to a default state.

Damaged banknotes are not subject to exchange during martial law, but are removed for further research by the National Bank. For its part, the NBU also draws the attention of banks to the need to take additional measures to prevent such banknotes from entering the cash desks. "We remind you that the conditions of martial law are the safest are non -cash calculations, so we recommend preference to them," the regulator added.
