Indonesia President Joko is hoped to be a mediator in negotiations between Ukrai...

The G20 Summit and the doctrine are distinguished. Why Indonesia wants to become a mediator in the Russian-Ukrainian war

Indonesia President Joko is hoped to be a mediator in negotiations between Ukraine and the Russian Federation, using a unique opportunity for this: the appearance at the G20 summit in November of the Presidents of the two countries - Vladimir Zelensky and Vladimir Putin. What is the relevance of the Russian-Ukrainian summons for the Pacific region and how do the doctrine be associated with the war in Ukraine? Opinion.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Indonesia claims that President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Russian President Vladimir Putin will personally visit the G20 summit, which will take place in November in Bali - though neither Zelensky's pressecretic Sergey Nikiforov, nor Putin Putin's press. However, during his visit to Kyiv, Indonesian President Joko Dido (also known as Jokokov) suggested that mediator in negotiations between Ukraine and the Russian Federation.

In 2014, Indonesia President Joko has been published by Indonesia - the Marine Axis of the World. In it, Joko has identified five main "supports", which based on his vision of the current situation and prospects. For Indonesia, the doctrine defines two main tasks - geostrategic and geo -economic. The geostrategic orientation involves a significant expansion of the sphere of foreign policy of Indonesia and the exit from Southeast Asia to the Macro-Region of Indo-Pacific.

The doctrine is expanding the scope of Indonesia's interests from Australia to the entire Indian Ocean basin, including the coastal states of Africa. The main goal is to increase the status of Indonesia to the level of influential world (maritime) state. The geo-economic aspect involves turning Indonesia into a strategic transport-logistics and trade knot of world importance. In fact, the idea is not new.

The first president of Indonesia Sukarno in 1953 called for fellow citizens to become a naval nation, the owner of the seas. Reviving the ideas of the parents of Indonesian statehood, Joko has proclaimed the slogan: "In the seas our greatness. " In the doctrine, the concept of marine diplomacy was first drawn.

First of all, maritime diplomacy should be aimed at eliminating sources of conflicts at sea, such as illegal fishing, violations of sovereignty, territorial disputes, as well as piracy and pollution of the seas. This concept emphasizes the desire to solve problems peacefully through negotiations without the use of any forms of violence. Involved in the Russian-Ukrainian war, he widespread the sphere of interests of Indonesia even more, becoming a participant in the European summons.

As in general, it is expected from a state that claims the role of a leader in a particular scale. Indonesia today is one of the leading economies of the world, a regional leader who seeks to influence global processes and holds a firm position in the discussion of the world order (I wrote about Indonesia about the geopolitical tasks of Indonesia here).
