To the anniversary of the invasion: in the EU want to impose sanctions on the nuclear sector of Russia - Reuters

According to European diplomats, as part of the tenth sanctions package, even more Russian banks may be cut off from the global SWIFT system. In Poland and Lithuania, they want to submit to the next package of sanctions of the European Union against the Russian Federation and Belarus restrictions on the Russian nuclear sector. Reuters writes about it, referring to the words of high -ranking European diplomats.

The publication states that Ukraine has called on the European Union to submit to the tenth package of sanctions the Russian State Committee "Rosatom". Until recently, Hungary, on which "Rosatom" built four atomic reactors and plans to build two more. "Are you comfortable with such a partner? Who invades the neighboring country while building your nuclear power plant?", - said the Ukrainian diplomat to the Hungarian colleague at a meeting of EU representatives in Brussels.

According to the Reuters interlocutor, the first step in this direction may be the inclusion of "Rossa" in the "black list". In the future, this can curtail the cooperation of European countries with the nuclear industry of the Russian Federation. "The tenth package of EU sanctions after Russia's invasion of Ukraine should be ready for the first anniversary of the invasion of February 24," the EU's high -ranking officials said to reporters.

European diplomats have declared possible termination of diamond trade between Belgium and Russia. This is due to the expansion of the list of prohibitions on exchange of goods that can be applied in the military industry. Restrictions can also affect Russian propaganda media. In addition, some European diplomats are to cut off even more Russian banks from the global SWIFT exchange system. "It is increasingly difficult to achieve the necessary unanimity in the EU to impose additional sanctions.

However, we will offer an ambitious new package," said one of the EU representatives. Reuters state that new sanctions can also touch Belarus. According to journalists, earlier Minsk was able to bypass the restrictions on trade in various goods, in particular, furniture.

The authors of the publication also recalled that the chairman of the European Commission Ursula Fon der Layen was declared about the imposition of sanctions against Belarus with the assistance of the Russian Federation in the war against Ukraine. This was discussed at a press conference on January 10. As reported by Focus, the European Union never imposed a restriction on Belarus within the latest sanction packages.
