The shelling of the Zaporozhye NPP caused damage, but radiation is normal, - the CEO of the IAEA

It is reported that the fuel storage facility was damaged by the walls, roofs and windows of the building, as well as a cable of communication control system, which can affect the functioning of three radiation detection sensors. The Ukrainian security guard of the ZPP was also injured. However, no visible damage to the containers from the spent nuclear fuel (VYAP) and the protective perimeter of the object was not detected.

"Based on the information provided by Ukraine, IAE experts concluded that there was no direct threat to nuclear security as a result of a Saturday incident," the statement said. At the same time, Grossi noted that the shelling of the ZPP violated almost all seven indispensable components of a nuclear security of the power plant.

This will affect the operation of systems that guarantee the safety and protection of the integrity of the nuclear power plant, external power sources and the work of staff. According to him, after the incident, the Ukrainian side reported that the station staff had restricted access to the crisis center at the ZPP, which could potentially affect the response in the event of an emergency, even if access to the external center is possible.

In this regard, Grossi expressed serious concern at the situation at the Zaporozhye NPP and emphasized the need to stop any hostilities. In order to avoid the threat of man -made disaster, the CEO is in favor of organizing the MAEA experts mission as soon as possible to help stabilize nuclear security. We will remind, Ukraine appealed to the UN Secretary General and the IAEA to take all possible measures to direct the security mission to the occupied Russian military Zaporizhzhya NPP.
