Belarusian politician Alexander Lukashenko may be "powerless" before pressure from the Kremlin, whose leadership makes attempts to place nuclear weapons in the neighboring country. This was stated by former US troops in Europe, Lettler Ben Hodges, Newsweek reports. Hodges said that, in his opinion, the emergence of reports of nuclear weapons in Belarus resembles the Kremlin's information operation to remind everyone that Russia has nuclear potential.
He says that in the Russian Federation they know that it always works to the West. "It makes us stop, hesitate before doing what we have to do to provide Ukraine with a victory," the US spokesman said. However, such a step is notable for contributing to Moscow and Minsk even greater and at the same time, Lukashenko makes vulnerable to his political opponents.
Following the Kremlin's statement about the placement of nuclear forces in Belarus Svetlana Tikhanovskaya, who heads the Belarusian opposition in exile, stated on Twitter that in this case Belarus may be a precautionary strike. Rajan Menon, Director of the Great Strategy Program in Defense Prioritis, believes that the Kremlin can put pressure on Minsk, but no one may ever know about it.
