The Latvia State Security Service has long monitored the editor of "Sputnik Lithuania" by Marat Casem. His resource has regularly discredited the activities of the country and its allies. In Latvia, the State Security Service (SDB) detained the chief editor of the Russian propaganda portal "Sputnik Lithuania" Mara Casma (citizen of Latvia). About it on Thursday, January 5, reports Delfi. Law enforcement officers detained Kasma on January 3, after which they were put into custody.

He is suspected of violating the EU sanctions. According to the investigation, he provided economic resources to the sub -media, banned in Latvia and other EU countries. According to the Latvian media, the State Security Service for a long time documented the illegal activity of Kasma. In particular, it is established that the detainee operates in one of the information resources of the Kremlin -controlled Russia Today (RT).

According to militiamen, this media regularly discredits Latvia and its allies. According to the SSB, the detained citizen of Latvia holds a leading position in this resource, organizing and managing the creation of content. Marat Casam lived and worked in Russia for several years, and came to Latvia at the end of 2022. At the same time, the Russian propaganda resource Sputnik reports that Kasma is allegedly suspected of espionage in favor of the Kremlin.

In addition, it is noted that in 2018 the cashier participated in the elections to the Seimas from the "For an alternative" party, and before that it was expelled from the consent party for public rudeness to the electorate. It should be noted that after Russia's invasion of Ukraine "Sputnik Lithuania" was blocked in EU countries for justifying the Russian military aggression and actions to destabilize the situation in other European countries.

Casame never hid that he fully supports the Kremlin's aggressive foreign policy, which is why in 2019 he was recognized as a non -Grat person in Lithuania. At that time, Kasem complained to the newspaper "Today", which is afraid to return to Latvia, because there he can be sentenced to imprisonment for actions against the Latvian state. However, judging by his social networks, he continued to visit the country, despite his "fear". In particular, he met the New Year in Riga.

In Latvia, he is known primarily for his statements against society and the government. Recall that in March 2022, Google declared full blocking of RT and Sputnik channels, as well as related YouTube channels. A similar decision made META and limited access to the Russian state media. Focus also wrote that on January 4, a substance of unknown origin was found in the building of the embassy in Riga.
