Will not be able to capture Donbas: Putin again overestimates the possibilities of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation - isw

Analysts do not see the signs that the Russian army has accumulated enough strength to fulfill the requirement of the President of the Russian Federation to capture the eastern regions of Ukraine until March. Russian President Vladimir Putin can again overestimate the possibilities of his country's armed forces, demanding that he fully capture Donetsk and Luhansk regions by March 2023. This is stated in the report of the Institute of War Study (ISW) of February 2.

According to analysts, there are no visible evidence that the Russian army has increased enough combat force in order to displace the Armed Forces from the Donetsk region -controlled Ukraine until the end of February. Currently, it is 11,300 square kilometers. Analysts also suggested that if the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation are in the near future for a new large -scale offensive in Ukraine, it will probably end prematurely during the April season of spring rain.

"The climax of the Russian forces can then create favorable conditions for the Ukrainian forces to use them in the counter -offensive at the end of spring or in the summer of 2023 after the inclusion of Western tank deliveries," the report reads.

We will remind that on February 1 the representative of the Main Directorate of Intelligence of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine Andriy Chernyak reported that Vladimir Putin had set a task to the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation to fully seize Donbas until March 2023. According to Ukrainian intelligence, Russian invaders continue to charge military equipment and personnel to the eastern border of Ukraine, which can indicate the preparation of a new offensive.

Focus also wrote that on February 2, Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Moravetsky suggested that Vladimir Putin plans to surround Ukraine to attack from 2-3 directions. According to the prime minister, the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation can wait until the soil is suitable for promotion of military equipment.
