Thunderstorm drones. On the German frigate Sachsen tested laser weapons (photo)

The test showed the ability to knock the objects from the ship. In the future, the tests will be conducted on the ground and in the air. Development can be the basis of the German laser arsenal. The German naval forces protested a laser weapon demonstrator to destroy drones. This was reported by the Baainbw press service (Federal Bundeswehr Office for Equipment, Information Technology and Technical Support). Laser weapons test took place on FGS Sachsen F219 frigate.

The ship went to the Putlos landfill in the Baltic Sea. The purpose of the blows was to small and high altitude drones. All actions took place under Baainbw along with Defense Technical. It was installed in June 2022 on the Sachsen frigate for testing of laser weapons. The tests will be under a number of programs developed by the Office. The laser installation will be tested on water, in the air and on the ground.

This should be the basis for the possible development of an operational laser weapon system in the Navy of Germany. The demonstrator will test by mid -2023. The tests checked the work of all sensors and radar to identify goals. They also checked the interaction between all components and procedures from identifying the goal to its destruction. In general, the test result showed that the laser could affect the air objects. A laser made of 12 fiber laser modules with a capacity of 2 kW each is made.
