Ukrainians who fled from war to Britain have made a same -sex marriage

Julia and Tatiana have been living together for 10 years. However, they were able to legalize their relations only after on March 1, 2022, they left Ukraine, escaping from the war. A same-sex couple married in Britain a year after escaping from the Russian-Ukrainian war. The Guardian media wrote about it on April 15. Julia and Tatiana have been together for 10 years. They have long decided that their marriage would be abroad, but did not think that they would be found in Britain as refugees.

On March 1, 2022, they crossed the border of Ukraine. So the wedding date of the girls decided to choose this day. "This date was to be a sad anniversary, the anniversary of the fact that we left our old life behind, but we decided to rewrite this story and make it our special anniversary," said 42-year-old Tatiana. And 44-year-old Yulia added that it would be very symbolic: to change bad memories of this day to joyful. The girls married in the town hall of Ripley (Derbyshire, UK).

Only the closest people were present at the ceremony. "It was really strange that our dream came true, but in such a strange way. It was difficult," Tatiana said. And her partner added that emigration from Ukraine because of the war is not exactly the price she was ready to pay for his official marriage with her beloved woman. On March 13, we wrote that more than half of Ukrainians support the civil partnership of same -sex couples.
