Thales modified the GM 200 radar sent to Ukraine: How will they reinforce air defense

The new version of the radar covers an area of 100 km larger and more accurately determines threats at a long distance. Thales develops an innovative air defense system, the key element of which will be a modified radar of Ground Master 200 MM/a. Its features and characteristics have been revealed at the Air Force in Paris, reports Breaking Defense.

Christoph Salomon's executive president told the publication that the war in Ukraine has shown in practice how many different threats come from heaven, including drones of new types that the event has not yet encountered. That is why Thales is now working on a new set of sensors that will help you identify the danger and find the most effective ways to combat it.

These tasks are intended to perform the Ground Master 200 MM/A, a modernized version of Radar Gund Master 200, which was handed over to Ukraine in 2023. Equipment fixes targets and shows on the operator screen available weapons that are best suited for destruction. The new modification sees a threat within a radius of about 350 km, which is 100 km more than its predecessor. In addition, the resolution and accuracy of long -distance search.

"It is of great importance to the area that the radar covers," Thales emphasized. He added that the Ground Master 200 MM/A, its mast, power generator and working cabin with air conditioning for two operators are in a 20-foot shelter, which can be transported on a truck, as well as GM200. The deployment of the radar takes about 15 minutes, and assembly - 10 minutes, it will help the military quickly leave the position in case of detection by the enemy.

The company plans to release GM 200 MM/A to the market in 2024. Along with the modernized Thales radar advertised a system of counteraction, known as Parade, which can be integrated into a larger air defense system. According to Christof Salomon, the French government has already approved it to protect the Olympic Games in 2024 in Paris. The Executive Vice President said that Thales is considering different ways of damage to air threats, including energy weapons.
