- Where did the donorua organization begin and could you imagine the extent that the initiative has grown to now? If you compare the donorua in 2014 and 2022, what is the biggest difference? - The difference is that we now know much more than they knew during its founding. Unfortunately, we do everything we do and do in the donorua in Ukraine for the first time, and is a pilot project that punches this wall. I am glad that there are people who do it.
When we started, we did not realize the depth of the problem. Probably, like everyone heard that someone is looking for blood, they realize that the problem is that there are no donors. We started with the problem that there are no donors, and now we live in a situation where there is no system, it does not work, and it is because of this that the patient does not have high quality blood and he is forced to look for her independently.
Today we are already existing in the digital world when we are first data. For example, everyone knows the figure that there are 13 donations per thousand in Ukraine. So, this figure derived the donorua, analyzing the statistics, which annually the blood centers are submitted to the Ministry of Health. Prior to that, Ukraine did not operate such data at all. - And it is not a lot? - This is less than necessary.
WHO Recommendation suggests that there is no shortage in the country when there are more than 33 donations per thousand. From here we began to count what we have. We still do not know how many people have not received blood or need every day. We are working on it, it's not easy. However, we already know the real need for WHO recommendation. Ukraine does not reach ⅔.
We brought this figure that in Ukraine, about 200,000 patients need blood transfusion every year and ⅔ of them or not in time (equal to death), or never receive blood components. We live in this reality in 2022, with this problem. What is bad that people bring donors? I got into the hospital, such rules - donors should be brought. And the bad thing is that it is called family donation.
A person donates blood under moral pressure, he does not tell the truth about his health and can say that he is healthy, donate blood, harm himself first, and then potentially harm the patient, handing him hemotransmia infection, HIV or hepatitis. As a result, we have an even greater problem every year. We are now in 2022 at this level, and we started with the fact that we need to tell about the culture of donation.
Now we know exactly what we need to do, there is a specific plan, because the problem in many areas and needs to be solved comprehensively. - About the culture of donation. Still have to debunk myths, fight stereotypes, what can it be dangerous or harmful? Has the awareness of the importance of the topic of donation changed in society? - In general, I think the situation has changed. Unfortunately, this is helped by Russia's war against Ukraine, which in 2014 has begun now full -scale.
People have shown more humanism, patriotism than by 2014. This shows the number of NGOs that have appeared in our medical territory. People are involved, donation in other ways, attract their audience, which is very cool, because the more people, organizations that promote donation, the faster we can form an appropriate population culture. We started with three thousand donors, now more than 100 thousand people are in the system, that is, there are achievements. The project is only 7 years old.
We cooperate in particular with the state, especially during the war. It seems to me, they hear, recognize that there is a problem. By the way, Ulyana Suprun began recognizing the problem in the blood system during the [Minister of Health]. Before that, we could not say that we had problems. At the end of last year, we conducted a good large -scale study that shows what donors we have, what is their level of involvement, why they do not return.
It is worth saying that myths are back to the background. In most cases, people now become donors for lack of time or inconvenience. Most blood centers are already going to the meeting, there are away crews. [In a hotel or shopping center] blood could be donated. We wanted to show that it is just as simple and easy to buy a hat or lipstick, eat ice cream. Here, in the shopping center, you can also donate blood and save life. That is, myths go away a little, but get rid of them - painstaking work.
- There are still these fears that the disease can be chosen or just "I will feel bad". - I think that these fears can be tidy before vaccination. It is the movement of people who are just against: they will not look for ways to join something, but will always look for excuses why they will not do it. Many people think (this is a myth that should always be debunked): “I have a popular blood group. I will not go, because everyone will go to take it.
" Is there a question that is the most rare blood group? I always answer: "The one that is not right now. " It can be the most popular first plus and second plus. Donation is a step that virtually everyone can take. Most people can donate blood. This should be done consciously. I mean, when a person cares about his body, monitors health, exercises, eats accordingly, sleeps well - he is in the resource and can share his resource for rescuing other people.
- But now it is difficult to be in the resource, given the stress in what stress we are. You said "sleep well", and I thought about how many Ukrainians have a luxury like a good sleep. Are Lifehaks how to maintain your physical condition to be able to be blood donor? - I will tell you how I do. Our sphere is both peaceful and stressed during the war. Almost no one slept from the team for the first two weeks, because it was necessary to coordinate everything and settle it somehow.
And when a structure was built in two weeks, every team member and I have a rule - I do my task, I do not do myself. The faster and better I do what I can, the faster and better someone will have the next action. I separated myself from the information space, because if I read one news during the day, then everything is not a working person. We now carry blood to those points where no one drives. I'm not a working person for a day - we will not take the blood where you need.
