European officials have discovered trade channels from the EU to Russia through Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan and other Asian countries, which increased by 60-80%. Many goods are dual purpose and can be used in the military sphere, such as washing machines, cameras, and cars. The Russians are expected to remove electronics and other components to repair tanks, armored personnel carriers, reconnaissance drones and other equipment damaged in the war in Ukraine.
According to sources, much of the cargoes are exported from the EU to Belarus, sent through the land border with Lithuania, and then delivered to Asia. Europeans can track export documents only to the outer border of the region, after monitoring the movement of equipment is impossible. EU officials are afraid that Asian allies help the Kremlin bypass international sanctions designed to deprive Russia of military equipment.
The EU now plans to impose restrictions on the countries that trade with the Russians, but at first politicians want to solve the issues of diplomatic ways, threatening economic consequences. Kazakhstan has already promised to strengthen control over goods passing through the country. "We understand all the risks of secondary sanctions, so we carefully monitor our mutual trade with all partners," FT commented in the Kazakh government.
The Telegraph noted that Poland has closed the border with Belarus, but Lithuania still retains trade relations with Minsk. At the same time, the Lithuanian authorities complain that 97% of trade deliveries through Belarus are made by other countries. G7 diplomats also monitor Turkey, Armenia and the UAE so that they do not help the Russian army.
In May 2022, it was written that Russia was set on military chips from foreign home appliances, in particular from refrigerators, washing and dishwashers. In this way, they miss the sanctions imposed on electronics import. In June, the EU forbade to sell double -use technology in the Russian Federation. These include electronics, computer equipment, telecommunications, sensors, lasers, navigation systems, power installations, materials for processing materials and information protection.
