Preparing for the traditional communication of the President of the Russian Fede...

For the first time in 10 years: Putin can give up a press conference against a failure in Kherson - RBC

Preparing for the traditional communication of the President of the Russian Federation has not yet begun, the Kremlin will make a final decision, taking into account the situation at the front. This year, Russian President Vladimir Putin may refuse to hold an annual Great Press. Preparation for the event, which has been held in December since 2012, has not yet been started. About it reports the RBC newspaper with reference to two familiar with the discussion of the source.

"Preparation for the event is not yet underway. One source says that the final decision will be taken into account, in particular, the situation in the area of a special military operation (wars in Ukraine - ed. )," The publication reads. In the context of uncertainty about Putin's press conference, the Russian publication noted that on November 9, the Russian military command made a decision to withdraw troops from Kherson.

Journalists also noted that this year the traditional "straight line" with the Kremlin leader has not yet passed, and the Presidential President Dmitry Peskov repeatedly reported the postponement of the event. In August, Putin's speaker suggested that the "straight line" could be combined with a large press conference, as it happened during the coronavirus pandemic in 2020.

If the press conference is postponed to 2023, it will be the second case in history, when Putin will refuse to communicate with the media this year - for the first time in 2005. The tradition of conducting press conferences began in 2001. It is also known that Putin did not conduct press conferences in 2009-2011, as he then held the post of Prime Minister.

We will remind that the President of the Russian Federation almost at the last moment refused to travel in Bali, where on November 15 the G20 summit will begin - not join Putin and online. The Russian delegation will be represented by the Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov.
