Up to 5 million rubles or 5 years of colony: Putin signed a law on "desecration" of St. George's tapes

The new law applies even to users' actions on the Internet that may be under the category of "desecration". In Russia, they will now be deprived of freedom for five years for the desecration of the St. George's tape. The relevant law was signed by Russian President Vladimir Putin. The document enshrined the status of "St. George's Ribbon" as one of the symbols of Russia's military glory and the victory of the USSR in World War II. For the desecration of the St.

George's tape, a fine of up to 3 million or up to 3 years of colony in the main composition of the crime is now provided. If the crime was committed by a group of persons by prior conspiracy or on the Internet, then the amount of the fine is increased to 5 million rubles. Also violators are threatened with up to 5 years of colony. It should be noted that the relevant law of the State Duma of the Russian Federation approved in the third reading on December 20, 2022.

The authors of the law were the secretary of the Henra council of the party "Edinia Russia" Andriy Turchak and the deputy chairman of the State Duma Committee on the Development of Civil Society Olga Zanko. At the same time, in Ukraine and a number of other states "St. George's tape" is prohibited as a symbol of Russian aggression. In our country, this Russian symbol was banned in June 2017. We will remind, in April 2022 in Moldova the "St. George's tape" was banned.
