Every fifth resident of the Russian Federation believes that people and dinosaur...

One -third of the Russians believe that the sun rotates around the Earth - a survey of VCVGD

Every fifth resident of the Russian Federation believes that people and dinosaurs lived at the same time. According to Russian sociologists, scientific illiteracy is widespread among older people and active viewers. Every third Russian is convinced that the sun rotates around the Earth. This is evidenced by the results of a new survey of the All -Russian Center for Public Opinion (VCVGD). According to Russian sociologists, 35% of respondents gave this answer.

Over the past fifteen years, this figure has increased by seven percentage points. 12% of the citizens of the aggressor country are convinced that one rotation around the sun is carried out in a month. As specified, in 2007, 14% of respondents were given the following answer, and in 2011 - 20%. Every fifth resident of the Russian Federation (21%) believes that primitive people lived simultaneously with dinosaurs. In 2007, 30% of respondents had similar scientific mistakes.

The high proportion of erroneous answers is associated with GMOs: 44% of Russians believe that genetically modified products can cause cancer. 7% of those polled said that radioactive milk can be safe if boiled. This figure is twice less than 15 years ago: in 2007, this answer was given by 14% of respondents. According to sociologists, Russians with low levels of scientific literacy distinguish their older age.

Thus, in a group of people over 60 years of age, 33% of respondents gave no more than two correct answers to questions. Among the illiterate are the most common active viewers (43%); Village residents (32%) and people with secondary and lower education (31-55%). High level of scientific literacy is most common among young people (61% of 18-24-year-old gave 5 or more correct answers). The indicator is also affected by active Internet consumption (49%) and higher education (45%).

1,600 Russians aged 18 years took part in the survey conducted by the telephone interview method. The marginal error with a probability of 95% does not exceed 2. 5%. Recall that 30% of Russians stand for the end of the war in Ukraine. The study showed that the older respondents, the more followers of the continuation of Putin's current policy on Ukraine.
