Reduced ceiling prices for Russian oil: WSJ voiced Biden's position

According to official American people, the US is trying not to take steps that are threatening the supply of Russian oil, as this can lead to an increase in world prices. Last week, in the White House, President of the United States of America, Joe Biden, told the head of the European Commission Ursula von Der Layen that Washington did not want to adjust the oil sanctions imposed on the Russian Federation. This was reported on March 15 by The Wall Street Journal with reference to its sources.

The publication states that the Western countries agreed to revise the ceiling of prices for Russian oil at $ 60 per barrel in March 2023. This is due to the fact that the authorities of Poland, Ukraine and the Baltic countries advocated the establishment of a lower price for oil from the Russian Federation. However, according to the media, the authors of the pricing boundary from the US Treasury believe that the current restrictions on Russian oil have lived expectations.

The department stated that their plan allows simultaneously to maintain the availability of Russian oil in the world markets and to cut the revenues of the Russian Federation. Ministry of Finance representatives noted that if necessary, they are ready to amend oil sanctions against Russia. According to official American people, the US is trying not to take steps that are threatening the supply of Russian oil, as this can lead to rising prices.

The press service of the US National Security Council refused to comment on this. The European Commission Representative said that the EU meeting did not mention Joe Baiden's statements about reducing the ceiling of prices for Russian oil. On Wednesday, March 15, Bloomberg reported that Poland, Lithuania, and Estonia urged the Allies to reduce the upper price limit for Russian oil in March 2023 from $ 60 to $ 51. 45 per barrel.

According to journalists, 27 EU Member States had to discuss this issue in the coming meeting. It should be reminded that oil embargo on oil supplies from Russia to the EU came into force on December 5, 2022. The ceiling of prices for Russian oil was set at $ 60 per barrel. According to Reuters dated February 28, in connection with the introduction of the ceiling of prices and the reduction of supply volumes in 2023, the profit of the Russian Federation from energy export fell by 38%.
