In the Diet of Lithuania, they discuss the possible renaming of Russia to Muscovy

According to the chairman of the profile committee of Raimundas Lopat, the renaming of the Russian Federation is due to the fact that the country uses distorted historical facts to justify the war in Ukraine. In Lithuania, they can rename Russia to Muscovy at the legislative level. This was stated by the chairman of the Committee of the Future in the Diet of Lithuania Raimundas Lopata in a comment to the media Verslo Zinios on Friday, May 19.

According to him, politicians will look for a compromise decision based on the conclusions of the historian Alfred Bumblauskas, which he will provide the Seimas in his report on June 7. According to the deputy of the Seimas, Russian President Vladimir Putin justifies his war in Ukraine with a distorted and false history of his state. Therefore, Lithuania should raise the question of whether Russia's historical role is distorted, as is its name.

"We call Russia Russia, because it calls itself so much. Looking from the historical point of view of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania, we will look for a more acceptable and accurate assessment," the politician said. The shovel emphasized that the government would still work on the question of how it will be more correct to call a country that we traditionally call Russia: either Russia or Muscovy, or somehow.

We will remind, on May 13 the media wrote that in Lithuania they decided to rename the Russian Kaliningrad. According to Lithuanian deputies, they are joint and several with Poland, and therefore want to rename the Russian enclave in Europe. It was also reported that the Kremlin reacted to the renaming of Kaliningrad. Kremlin representatives perceived the decision to use the Polish name Krulivtsi instead of Kaliningrad with indignation. In their view, it is a "manifestation of Russophobia.
