The department said that due to the stop of the power units of the station, the water does not get into the pond-cooler of the ZPE. As a result, the water temperature dropped to +13 ° C, which led to the extinction of fish in the pond. There are now two types of fish - thermal tillage and the Asian catfish, imported about 25 years ago to ensure environmental purity.

Fish perform a sanitary function, they destroy the green algae and ensure the cleanliness of the cooling tubes of the turbine capacitor. "In conditions when the winter temperature has never dropped below +18 degrees, the fish multiplied. So, if the water temperature in the cooler pond does not rise in the near future, about a thousand tons of dead fish will be thrown to the shore,"-said in Energoatom.
