"See Consequences": Georgia's Prime Minister called Ukraine's desire for NATO one of the causes of war

According to Irakli Garibashvili, there were several reasons for Russian aggression, but the desire of Kiev to become a member of the Alliance - one of them. Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili is convinced that Russia's war against Ukraine began because of the desire of Kiev to become a member of NATO. He stated this at the Global Security Forum in Bratislava, reports "Echo of the Caucasus" on May 30. In his opinion, the clash could be avoided if Ukraine refused to join the Alliance.

This influenced the beginning of Russian aggression, but there were many reasons, according to Irakli Garibashvili. "I do not want to speculate, I do not want to quote the statements of the Russian government. But one of the reasons was the desire of Ukraine to become a member of NATO. So we see the consequences," the statement said. The Georgian Prime Minister did not provide a direct answer to the question of what the perfect way out.

He replied that the situation in his country is important for him today, although he supports Ukraine in its fight against Russian invaders. "I want to talk about the situation in Georgia. We value everyone and recognize the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine. We wish peace to Ukraine. But I want peace first for my country," the message reads.

But in 2008, as Irakli Garibashvili noted in the forum, the world did not pay due attention to the war of Russia against Georgia, and now Tbilisi is allegedly forced to take into account that Moscow controls 20% of their territory. "Georgia has a well -prepared but relatively small army. You have to consider a lot when you are not a member of NATO or the EU when you have no security guarantees," he continued.
