"Dangerous Time": Republicans want to check compliance with a nuclear contract with the Russian Federation

Representatives of the US Congress fear that the Russian president can use tactical nuclear weapons in Ukraine. The heads of the three Committees of the Congress of the United States of America from Republicans, Mike Rogers, Michael McKol and Michael Turner, appealed to the Presidential Administration Joe Baiden to comply with the Nuclear Armament Control Treaty (SNO). Financial Times writes about it.

It is reported that in a letter addressed to US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken, Defense Minister Lloyd Austin and National Intelligence Director, Avril Haynes, the Chairman of the Committees of the House of Representatives demand that January 31st. According to journalists, this step could have contributed last year's refusal of the Russian Federation to inspection of their nuclear facilities within the SNO.

In addition, the Kremlin did not participate in the consultations stipulated by the contract. In this regard, the US is concerned that Vladimir Putin can resort to the use of tactical nuclear weapons in Ukraine. In their address, the Republicans noted that attacks on the US Federation for the support of Ukraine cause them "serious fears".

"This happens in an extremely dangerous time when Russia and China are expanding and upgrading their arsenals, Iran continues to expand its nuclear program, and North Korea is rattling nuclear saber," the letter reads. According to Mike Rogers, the Russian Federation "clearly violates" a nuclear agreement.

The politician stated that the US should detect these violations and indicated that the Kremlin was trying to intimidate other countries so that they did not provide military assistance to Ukraine. The Pentagon and the State Department refused to comment on the republicans' letters. In 2021, Washington and Moscow decided to continue the non -proliferation of nuclear weapons for five years. The document provided a limitation of the number of strategic nuclear weapons of each party up to 1550 units.

According to journalists, last year Russia refused to participate in consultations on the last SNO. At the same time, the Kremlin claims that the Russian Federation complies with the requirements prescribed in the document. Russian Foreign Minister Serhiy Lavrov said the termination of the dialogue on the nuclear agreement was due to the wine of the United States. According to him, the Kremlin was expected from Washington's initiative on this issue.

"We are not going to run after them and say," Let's get friends again. "They know that we are serious and seriously respond if we will be treated seriously," - says the head of the Russian Foreign Ministry. It should be reminded that on December 9 last year there was information that Vladimir Putin can bring a position to the Russian military doctrine, which allows Russia to be the first to strike a pre -emptive nuclear stroke for disarmament of the enemy.
