According to the Advisor of the OP Chairman, special attention was paid to the protection of the southern regions at the end of last year. However, at the time of a full -scale invasion of Kherson region, there were too many "bought" and recruited Ukrainians. Last fall, Kyiv paid special attention to the potential protection of the southern regions from the Russian invasion. However, this did not work because of a large number of officials in the Kherson region, published by the Russian side.

Advisor to the head of the Presidential Office Alexei Arestovich told this in an interview with Dmitry Gordon. According to him, at the end of 2021 Volodymyr Zelenskyy personally participated in special exercises in the protection of southern Ukraine. "All the options were calculated there. This [Kherson region] was recognized as the most vulnerable direction. They took a number of measures, and they really started to take place," Arestovich commented.

However, as the adviser says, there were too many "purchased" and "aging" officials in the southern regions who helped the Russian invasion of the region. "These comrades, who are not all named and not found, thwarted the protection of the South," the politician said. According to Arestovich, Ukraine was generally preparing for a full -scale Russian invasion, but in the country it is not such financial opportunities that such preparatory work should be carried out on a necessary scale.

According to him, at that time I had to choose between the collapse of the economy before the start of hostilities and the quality of preparation for hostilities. At the same time, he said that neither the President of Ukraine nor the OP chairman had doubted that the fighting would begin, but no one could appreciate their real scale. "If we were not preparing, we would have lost [already]," the politician added.
