During his working trip to the Dnipropetrovsk region, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky held a meeting in a videoconference format with representatives of the world community of political and public figures, thought leaders and experts in the field of environmental protection.

The meeting was attended by more than 60 world political and public figures, including the Vice-Speaker of the European Parliament, Gaidi Hautala, Greta Tunberg eco-activist, ex-prime minister and ex-foreign minister Margot Walstrom, President of Ireland in 1990-1997 Mary Robinson, Head of the EU EU Foreign Service of Ukraine Petro Gambalov, Secretary General of the European Ecological Bureau (EEB) Patrick TEN BRINK, Regional Director of the World Wildlife Fund in Central and Eastern Europe Andreas Beckman, former Ambassador of France, Regional Director of the World Fund Climate, CEO of the European Climate Fund, Lawrence Tubian, Ambassador of the European Climate Covenant Anibet of NTUY (Nigeria), as well as eco -activists and journalists who cover environmental topics.

In his speech, the President of Ukraine emphasized that a catastrophe on Kakhovskaya hydroelectric power station is not a natural disaster and a manifestation of a climatic crisis, it is a disaster that is ordered by Putin personally. “This Russian ecocid crime is the largest in Europe, but, apparently, Russian invaders have decided to further aggravate its consequences. In the occupied part of the territory where about a dozen settlements are flooded, there is no evacuation at all.

People on the second day on the roofs, in a water trap, without drinking water, food and medical care. We do not know how many dead and victims are killed, ”Volodymyr Zelenskyy said. The head of state also noted that due to the destruction of the Kakhovskaya hydroelectric power station, fuel storage facilities, warehouses with chemicals, fertilizers, animal burial grounds, including two "anthrax burials" in the temporarily occupied territory; Sewage drains were included in the water.

“More than 50,000 hectares of forests are flooded, and at least half of them will die. Tens of thousands of birds and at least 20,000 wild animals are threatened with death. It is obvious that the Kakhovka reservoir has been transformed into a large grave for millions of living beings, ”the President said. He called on the world community to help attract the attention of international organizations to help people who remained in the temporarily occupied territory affected by flooding.

In addition, Volodymyr Zelensky reported the creation of an international working group of a high -level, which will consolidate the efforts of the world to bring Russia to liability for ecocide in Ukraine. “So that our country does not remain alone with this tragedy - with ecocid. I am sure that the world's sufficient leadership can be created in the world, ”the head of state said.

The President also emphasized the importance of assisting Ukraine in eliminating the consequences of a catastrophe at the Kakhovsky hydroelectric power station. “It is necessary that no desert, or ruins, or dead zone is left after this disaster. And this can be provided only by joint efforts, along with the eco -protection community of the world, along with Policy Makers, together with leaders and states, together with international organizations, ”he said.

Volodymyr Zelensky urged the spread of the truth about Russian ecocide and induce leaders, states and international organizations to active action. “Please let's make it so that other ecocides are no longer. Join our community that I said to our experts. We are on constant contact, ”the head of state said.

Former Vice Prime Minister and ex-Foreign Minister of Sweden Margot Walstrom noted that one of ten points proposed by the President of Ukraine is the fight against ecocid and urgent measures to protect nature. “We need a joint response to these threats to our ecology. We need mechanisms for punishment for these crimes against humanity and against nature. And, undoubtedly, support - funds, knowledge, experience, technologies, ”she said.

Margot Walstrom expressed his conviction that all the eco -activists of solidarity with Ukraine and are ready to help our country with specific affairs. The Vice President of the European Parliament, Gaidi, for its part, noted that the EP should contribute to the prosecution of the perpetrators for the destruction of the Dam of the Kakhovka hydroelectric power station, which, she said, is the most serious environmental crime of this war.

“It's not just a tragic loss of civilians-it is a long-term consequence for the environment, it is a military crime, and I think that in the International Criminal Court the prosecutor already collects evidence without any delay. Russian aggression also falls under the definition of ecocide, and the European Parliament has already called for the recognition of ecocid and condemnation of this crime under international laws and international law, ”she said.

Gaidi Hautala assured that the European Parliament will continue to support Ukraine in the struggle for freedom as much as it will be needed. The former President of Ireland, the former head of the International Institute for Environment and Mary Robinson, has expressed his belief in the need to act decisively to hold all those who guilty of war crimes, including a catastrophe at the Kakhovsk Hydroelectric Power Plant.

"We support an independent tribunal for aggression, we are in full solidarity with you and the Ukrainian people," she said. The former French ambassador on climate change, the CEO of the European Climate Fund, Lawrence Tubian, emphasized that Ukrainians are experiencing ecocide today in the widest sense of the word.

In her opinion, the ecological community should respond to the call of Vladimir Zelensky to press on international organizations to access the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine. “To support communities by rebuilding your country. To support you in these efforts, helping scientists, researchers to evaluate what happened to water resources, food resources, biosphere. It is a human tragedy, but also a catastrophe for agriculture, water management, energy, ”Lawrence Tubian emphasized.

Greta Tunberg's eco -activist has expressed their condolences to all Ukrainians in connection with events that have been taking place for over a year, as well as with an environmental catastrophe due to undermining the Kakhovka hydroelectric power station. She stated that she was ready to press on the relevant organizations and seeks to get recommendations what it could help.
