According to the SBU, criminals promised victims of "assistance" to compensation and threatened with a "bureaucratic" obstacle. In the Odessa region, the Security Service of Ukraine exposed a criminal group that was engaged in extortion of funds for members of families of fallen Ukrainian servicemen. The SBU press service writes about it on March 10.

The organizer of the criminal scheme and his accomplices told people who lost their loved ones in the war, who can "promote" the receipt of one -time cash payment from the state. Instead, fraudsters demanded from the victims of "reward". Law enforcement officers have documented the extortion of $ 10,000 from relatives of the dead Ukrainian defender. The attackers claimed that for this money they would provide a complete package of documents for compensation.

The fraudsters referred to the existence of ties among the military unit staff and tried to convince people that they would have to face "bureaucratic" obstacles. SBU staff managed to arrest the leader of the criminal group while receiving part of the money from the brother of the dead serviceman. The fraud was reported suspicion under Part 3 of Art. 190 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, which provides for imprisonment for up to 8 years.
