Video game clips are released for war shots in Ukraine: How to distinguish fake (video)

The ARMA 3 simulator has long been used to create fakes, but the war in Ukraine has given a new occasion to viral rollers. The Bohemia Interactive studio was annoyed by the fact that the commercials of ARMA 3 video games are issued for the real shots of war, including hostilities in Ukraine. They told the details and showed examples in the video blog published on YouTube. Arma 3 military simulator released by Bohemia Interactive in 2013 is distinguished by a great realistic picture.

The developers have noticed that the games from the game have been used repeatedly to create viral videos on a military theme. The media, such as Reuters and Associated Press, have already exposed similar fakes, but after the start of a full -scale war in Ukraine, the situation worsened - jokers and fraudsters began to massively download clips from Arma 3 to receive a large number of views.

"Although it is comforting that Arma 3 is so realistically imitated by modern military conflicts, we, of course, do not like it that it can be mistaken for combat personnel from real life and used as military propaganda," said Pavel Krzhzhka, a manager with ZV " Bohemia Interactive, Prescribe.

There are tens of such cases, and they are very similar to each other: first, someone loads a roller created with Arma 3 on YouTube as their own creativity, and then other people edit video, make it more realistic, place on social networks and be issued for real events. The video becomes viral, then someone notices forgery and Bohemia interactive makes an official statement.

For example, the image of the MiG-29 jet aircraft, which resists the anti-missile, artillery and mortar system (C-RAM), was used in several popular rollers, giving for fighting in Afghanistan and then in Ukraine. On May 7, 2022, a video appeared on YouTube, on which Bayraktar drone allegedly fires from the air by Russian ships in the Black Sea.

The edited version of the clip was posted on Facebook, presenting a real record of recent events, and it gained tens of thousands of views before the administrators were deleted. In July, another blogger placed a video with a soldier on YouTube, which destroyed two Russian tanks with the help of NLAW missile complex. The original author noted that it was only a simulation with Arma 3, but another user resisted the video on Twitter and published for real events in Ukraine.

"We tried to fight such content, marking these videos to platform suppliers (FB, YT, TW, IG, etc. ), but it is very ineffective. With each removed video, ten more are downloaded daily. We found the best way to solve this problem - Actively cooperate with the leading media and facts verification services (such as AFPs, Reuters), which have a large audience and the ability to effectively combat fakes, "Pavel Krezhzhka said.

In her video blog, Bohemia Interactive told how fakes created with Arma 3 are different from real frames: Arma 3 created realistically modeling military conflicts on a computer. Together with the International Committee of the Red Cross, the studio released DLC, which describes the consequences of war. The Bohemia Interactive Simulations subsidiary has separated in 2013 and now creates models for the Pentagon, using similar technologies.
