The world community must move to active non -standard actions to protect human rights and stop the crimes that Russia continues to commit - Andriy Yermak at a meeting with international human rights organizations

The Head of the Presidential Office Andriy Yermak held a meeting with representatives of international human rights organizations in the format of videoconference on access to the places of coercive maintenance of Ukrainian prisoners of war and their rights. The meeting was also attended by the Commissioner of the Verkhovna Rada of Human Rights Dmitry Lubinets, representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Deputy Head of the Presidential Office.

Andriy Yermak stressed that today thousands of Ukrainian prisoners of war and civilians are held by Russia in the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine and in the territory of the Russian Federation. The invaders keep Ukrainian prisoners in horrible conditions and apply cruel physical and psychological torture to them. The head of the Presidential Office stated that today there are the most flashy human rights violations in Europe after World War II.

“Ukrainian prisoners are maintained without compulsory access to the United Nations and the International Committee of the Red Cross. Russia continues to block the mission of the UN to establish the facts of a terrorist attack against Ukrainian prisoners of war, the defenders of "Azovstal", in Olenivka. About 50 of our soldiers were ruthlessly killed. And it is very likely that other crimes are hidden in this place, ”said Andrei Ermak.

According to the head of the Presidential Office, each of the forced maintenance of Ukrainians is a testament to cynical and unpunished abuse by Russia over Geneva Conventions and all international law. The head of the Presidential Office emphasized: after Russia has solved the war against Ukraine, traditional methods of diplomacy have departed both the past, and the world must realize this reality.

Andriy Yermak called on representatives of the international human rights community, UN structures, the European Union, the Council of Europe, the OSCE to take immediate actions to terminate crimes against Ukrainian prisoners. "I appeal to anyone whose direct human rights mandate should not allow to stand aside and passively watch Russia continue to commit the most severe international crimes of the present," he said.

Andriy Yermak noted that international organizations should move to active non -standard actions, changing the established rules of their activity in accordance with modern conditions. According to the head of the Presidential Office, the international security system that has still existed in the world will be changed after this war. “Today, the whole community must be a single front in order to protect the principle of human rights protection in the 21st century. Otherwise we will say nothing.

Otherwise, this principle and many institutions will not be able to say something for a while. Any war ends, but what will we say after all these thousands of people? ” - he said. The head of the Presidential Office suggested that representatives of international organizations consider a plan that provides specific steps to protect the rights of Ukrainians in Russian captivity.

"I propose to immediately issue a concentration camp in Olenivka, access to Ukrainian prisoners of war and protect their rights to a global level and to approve a joint declaration, in which it is determined to condemn military crimes, crimes against humanity and the genocide of Russia against Ukrainians," Andrey said. Also, the head of the Presidential Office proposed to send a joint mission to the contact line, which may be joined by representatives of international organizations.

This mission should be on the contact line until Russia has access the Ukrainian prisoners. “I can guarantee you on behalf of Ukraine that we will provide all the guarantees of your safety and safety of your representatives. This will happen in the territory controlled by the Government of Ukraine, ”said the Presidential Office Head.

In addition, he made a proposal to prepare and publish the relevant thematic reports of international organizations based on the information seen personally or on eyewitness testimony. Andriy Yermak stressed that trust in international organizations will depend on the direct result of their activities. “If we unite, if we imagine that there, in Olenovka, maybe one of our family with you, then I am sure that we can find absolutely alternative, non -standard approaches.

I call you to this, ”he said. Andriy Yermak thanked the societies of those countries that supported Ukraine during Russian aggression. “Ukraine is not only fighting for itself today. She fights for the whole world. For freedom, for the values of the democratic world. We will definitely win, and it will be our common victory, ”he said. The head of the Presidential Office also suggested to conduct a weekly briefings of the Ombudsman to protect human rights.

Representatives of partner countries may join these briefings so that the international community can receive objective information about the situation around Ukrainian prisoners.

The Verkhovna Rada Commissioner for Human Rights Dmitry Lubinets noted that Ukraine proposes the creation of a new mechanism for the implementation of a humanitarian mission with the observation of the state and conditions of maintenance of Ukrainian prisoners of war and compliance with the Nativity of the Geneva Convention. “We draw your attention because it concerns our citizens. We go out with new initiatives.

It depends on you whether the international community can influence the aggressor state, ”Dmitry Lubinets said. First Deputy Foreign Minister Emine Dzhaparova stressed that Ukraine is raising issues that require the international community to find non -classical decisions. For its part, the UN Special Rapporteur on Torture, Alice Edwards, expressed his willingness to collect information about crimes committed against Ukrainian prisoners of war, with the purpose of further investigation.
