Up to 15 years prison: in the State Duma announced the strengthening of punishments for "discredited" of the Armed Forces

Russian parliamentarians propose to increase penalties from a maximum of 300 thousand to five million rubles. According to new amendments, criminal liability can increase from three to 15 years in prison. Deputies of the State Duma of Russia have submitted amendment to the Criminal Code and the Code of the Russian Federation on administrative violations, which provide for the strengthening of punishment for the so -called "discrediting of participants of a special military operation".

This was reported by the State Duma spokesman Vyacheslav Volodin on March 1. "Any public dissemination of apparently false information, as well as public actions aimed at discrediting the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, volunteer formations, organizations and persons who assist in the fulfillment of tasks assigned to the Armed Forces, are inadmissible," he said.

According to him, "offenders" are threatened with severe punishment: fines up to five million rubles or in the amount of salaries and other income for up to five years. Also, for statements that are not responsible for the position of Russian authorities, Russians can be sentenced to correctional or forced work for up to five years, or imprisonment for up to 15 years. Volodin added that the second reading will take place on March 2, and in case of support, the final reading - March 14.

It should be noted that the Russian Federation also has administrative and criminal liability for "discrediting" of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation. Article of the Criminal Code 280. 3 provides a fine in the form of from 100 thousand to 300 thousand rubles. Citizens of the Russian Federation can also be sentenced to forced work for up to three years, or imprisonment for up to three years.
