Between the EU and NATO: Ukrainians called acceptable conditions for the end of the war - a survey

The survey showed that 56% of Ukrainians are not ready to refuse to join the EU for peace with the Russian Federation. At the same time, 49% of respondents do not want NATO to cease the war. Only 8% of Ukrainians believe that Ukraine should refuse to join NATO for peace and end the war. This is evidenced by the results of a survey of a national democratic institution.

According to a survey, 49% of respondents said that the refusal of Ukraine's accession to NATO is quite unacceptable after the end of the war. In addition, another 22% called the price for peace rather unacceptable. 12% of Ukrainians said that such a price for peace is more acceptable and only 8% believe that it is quite acceptable.

Also, as a survey showed, the rejection of Ukraine's accession to the European Union is considered to be a completely unacceptable cost of termination of war 56% of respondents, rather unacceptable - another 19%. But more than the reasonable price of peace is considered 10% of respondents, and quite acceptable - 6% of Ukrainians. It is noted that 94% of Ukrainians consider it important that Ukraine becomes a fully functioning democracy.

82% of respondents said that the reasonable price of victory in the war against Russia is to return to control of all territories to the occupation of Crimea in 2014. In addition, the survey showed the dynamics of the attitude of Ukrainians to possible negotiations with Russia. Thus, in May 2022, 59%of Ukrainians spoke for negotiations, in August 2022, 44%, and in January 2023 - only 29%. At the same time, 37%, 52% and 66% were opposed.

It is reported that the survey was conducted in telephone from January 4 to January 15, 2023. The national representative sample was random. Temporarily occupied territories as of February 23, 2022 were excluded from the sample. Respondents living in the territories occupied after February 24, 2022 were interviewed. The random error for the national sample does not exceed 2. 2% that President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky said that it was time to negotiate Ukraine's accession to the European Union.
