The policy was transferred 2 times: in April, the Ukrainian authorities did not want to see it, and on October 20, the trip was canceled for safety because of Kiev shelling. German President Frank-Valter Steinmeyer arrived on an official visit to Kyiv. This is his first trip to Ukraine since the full -scale invasion of Russia. About it reports the German edition of DW.

Upon arrival in the capital, Steinmeyer appealed to the Ukrainians and stated that Germany would support Ukraine in economic, political and military plan. He also made a message to the Germans and said that Ukrainians need help. "Let's not forget what this war means for people here, in Ukraine. How many suffering, how many destruction. People in Ukraine need us," he called.

The President of Germany also noted that it was important for him to send a signal of solidarity to Ukrainians against the background of intense shelling of Russia by Russian drones, winged missiles and jet shells. Frank-Walter Steinmeier was to come to Ukraine on October 20, but the visit was canceled for safety through bombardment of Kyiv by missiles and drones. Security bodies and the German Foreign Ministry advised him not to go, but soon the visit was postponed.

However, other leaders continued to visit Kyiv. For example, Swiss President Ignaczio Cassie visited the Ukrainian capital the same day when there was to be a German president. On April 12, it became known that Steinmeier was ready to go to Kyiv with delegations of Poland, Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia, but the Ukrainian authorities considered his presence undesirable. Journalists wrote that this is due to his close relations with Russia in recent years.
