People in Ukraine need us," he called.

The President of Germany also noted that it was important for him to send a signal of solidarity to Ukrainians against the background of intense shelling of Russia by Russian drones, winged missiles and jet shells. Security bodies and the German Foreign Ministry advised him not to go, but soon the visit was postponed.

On April 12, it became known that Steinmeier was ready to go to Kyiv with delegations of Poland, Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia, but the Ukrainian authorities considered his presence undesirable. Journalists wrote that this is due to his close relations with Russia in recent years.
