Sanctions prevent Russia from entering new notes: ATMs are not broken

In total, almost 200 thousand ATMs operate in Russia, and approximately 60% of them are produced by Western NCR and Diebold Nixdorf companies that have stopped working in the Russian market. In Russia, due to the mass departure of Western manufacturers, on the background of sanctions, new 100-ruble notes cannot be put into circulation, since 80% of ATMs and payment terminals throughout the country cannot accept them.

The technique should be reprogrammed that it is almost impossible - international companies specializing in this have left the Russian media, the Russian media reported. Thus, according to the leading economist of the Telectrade Information and Analytical Center, Alexei Fedorov, there are almost 200,000 ATMs in Russia, and approximately 60% of them were produced by NCR and Diebold Nixdorf, which left the Russian market after a full-scale invasion of Russian troops in Ukraine.

Now the Russians promise that new notes will be put into circulation not earlier than 2024. At that time, the problem will be solved by supplying new equipment from "friendly countries". Even in the Russian Federation, they are going to establish their own production of ATMs and payment terminals. It will only take two years for all this. They wanted to put into circulation new 100 ruble bills in Russia in 2022. And in 2023 new banknotes had to appear 1 thousand rubles.

But there will be problems with them, as ATMs cannot accept them either. It is worth noting that from the beginning of the invasion of Ukraine has already suffered significantly from sanctions since the beginning of the invasion of Ukraine. According to Bloomberg, the country threatens a serious economic decline due to the break in trade and the loss of access to international production.
