The EU has already been urged to prepare for negotiations to end the war in Ukraine
He noted that there is no question of pushing the Ukrainian leadership to negotiations, but other countries should already be prepared for them. It became known from his comment to Tagesspiegel. "Along with the supply of weapons and financial support, we have to offer the prospect of a growing choir of critical issues in the United States, as well as we have in Germany," the German official wrote. At the same time, Ishinger stressed that he is not pushing Ukraine for negotiations now.
According to him, it would be equivalent to the surrender before the aggressor country and such a decision can only be made by the Ukrainian leadership. "Of course, it cannot be about demanding immediate readiness for negotiations," he assured. At the same time, the start of the peace process for Ukraine is on time, the German lawyer is confident.
He urged to start forming an international political and strategic contact group so that its participants would form at least part of the mediation group and prepare for negotiations. Ishinger sees it similar to Ramstein format with conferences to discuss military support. The politician also shared his own ideas about which countries should enter into such a group. According to him, the US, UK, France and Germany can create a group for mediation format.
Partners of these countries could also be joined by the group: Canada, Spain, Poland, Italy and the Baltic countries. Ishinger did not forget about international organizations and assured that the UN, the OSCE, the EU and NATO should be involved.
The expert of the Munich Conference assured that before the start of the negotiations, the group can hold regular meetings of the Foreign Minister and discuss details of the peace process - who could control it, in which format will be agreed by the countries to breed forces and so on. Public calls to refuse to supply weapons to Ukraine to bring peace to the politician criticized and called the manifestation of "absolutely unnecessary weakness".
We will remind, in 2022 Wolfgang Ishinger publicly acknowledged the guilt of the event in the war in Ukraine. He stated that countries did not mistakenly provide Ukraine with NATO membership prospects and did not respond quite decisively to the occupation of Ukrainian territories in 2014. Yesterday, March 12, the Consul General of Ukraine Vadim Kostyuk spoke about the conflict between the Caucasus native and the Armed Forces fighter in the German city of Frankfurt am Main.
