Estonia plans to strengthen the visa regime with Russia for victory of Ukraine

The Estonian authorities plan to ban entering the country for Russians with Schengen visas that have issued other EU countries. This was stated by Estonian Foreign Minister Urmas Rinsal in an ERR comment. According to him, after the cancellation of all the tourist visas of the Russians, issued by Estonia, intends to further limit entry into the country for citizens of the aggressor country.

Video of the Day of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Estonia Vayko Komusar said that the proposal to ban entry to the country for Russians with Schengen visas issued by other EU countries will be issued by August 21. Rainsal noted that the ultimate goal is still the ban on the entry of the Russians on the EU scale.

In his opinion, such an event is allowed by the legislation of the European Union, since similar restrictions were imposed during the coronavirus pandemic, then all bloc states closed their borders for citizens of other countries. "The number of Russian citizens who entered the EU by the end of the first week of August (850,000) is increasing, so we must be able to take steps to support Ukraine's victory," the minister stressed.

On August 11, Estonia decided to prohibit entry into its territory to Russian citizens who have Schengen visas issued by this country. The ban will come into force on August 18. Earlier, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky argued that a visa ban for Russian citizens could be one of the most effective measures against the Russian Federation.
