Provocations of the Russian Federation at the Zaporozhye NPP: CEO of the IAEA stated that there was no "direct threat to nuclear security"

The General Director of the IAEA Mariano Grossi has announced the absence of a direct nuclear threat at the Zaporozhye NPPs after the last shelling of the Russian military on August 5 and 6. "Based on the information provided by Ukraine, the IAEA experts evaluated the lack of a direct threat to nuclear security as a result of a Saturday incident," his statement reads on the international organization's website.

The IAEA emphasized that shelling on August 6 near the dry storage of waste nuclear fuel at the ZPP has caused some losses, but available radiation measurements continue to show its normal level. There are also no visible damage to fuel containers and the protective perimeter of the object.

At the same time, the organization emphasized that the shelling of the site of the NPP on August 5-6 violated almost all seven indispensable components of nuclear and radiation safety, including regarding the physical integrity of the nuclear power plant, ensuring the work of personnel and external power sources.

"After the incident, Ukraine reported that the station staff restricted access to the internal crisis center of the OPP, which could potentially affect the response in the event of an emergency, even if access to the external center would be possible," Grosssey summarized. Russian invaders captured the largest nuclear power plant in Europe, the Zaporozhye NPP at the beginning of a full -scale war, March 4. The staff of the station were hostage.

At the end of April, the NPP completely resumed its work, although the Russian regime is trying to get full control over the station, attracting its specialists. The Kremlin uses the Zaporozhye NPP to cover its military equipment because the Armed Forces cannot open fire in the area of the power plant, as well as for pressure on Ukraine and the world, threatening a nuclear disaster. Russian troops have equipped fire positions for the ZPP and fired from there Ukrainian cities.

Energoatom reported that the military of the Russian Federation had placed in the machine hall of the first power unit of Zaporizhzhya NPP at least 14 units of heavy military equipment with ammunition, weapons and explosives. US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken accused Russia of the use of the Zaporozhye NPP as a "nuclear shield" and called the Russian Federation "the pinnacle of irresponsibility.

" The invaders also arrange provocations, firing the territory of the ZPE and accusing the Armed Forces. On August 5, Russian shelling caused a fire at the NPP water station. In addition, due to damage to power lines, the 4th NPP power unit was disconnected from the power system and transferred to the reserve. As a result of the shelling, on August 6, the Russian shells got into the site near nuclear waste.
